Or you can try to contact the supplier of the HDD to confirm.
Are there any abnormalities in daily reading and writing?
I sent the drives back after Seagate told me the sounds are not normal.

I tried the drives in all four slots, same pounding/pulsing sounds.
The D8 is is set on Single.
Was going to use the drives for video, audio storage with jellyfin and eventually a NAS.
The other 2 8GB Seagate drives do not make the sounds the 12GB drives did, they are relatively quiet (I've transferred about 6TBs in video files to those 2 drives in the D8). I have 2 more of the 12GB drives coming from Bestbuy this time and will try again when they arrive tomorrow.

I had a listen. Sounds more like a low speed, ship, diesel engine rather than a 5400rpm drive.

Got the 2 new 12TB Seagate IronWolf drives yesterday and pretty the same noises at idle.... https://drive.proton.me/urls/HH85V3XA7R#GZ0Lm5JjOPtM

Here's the 2 8TB drives noises at idle.... https://drive.proton.me/urls/TXHGX09J20#LHMwKUh4z3OX

I'm not understanding why the 12TB drives (this makes 6 of them now) are making these noises when the 8TB drives don't?

Sent all 6 of the 12TB Seagate drives back and had a 18TB Toshiba drive delivered today, no noises at idle, quiet as the 8TB Seagate drives.

Do you happen to have the model no(s) of the 'noisy' segate 12MB drives for reference?

It's common to have same model of HDDs but different sizes to sound differently. It's just another hassle to deal with while purchasing HDDs these days. You simply need to do a proper research.. Do reddit / NAS focused websites with YT tests :)

Well, when the drives manufacturer says the noises aren't normal then I'm done "researching" and moving on to plan B :)

I bought a new f4-424 pro and put in two seagate st10000vn000 - 3ak101 10TB drives (on the recommended list)- Worked fine.
I then told the system to never power down the drives.
It started making awful noises and using high cpu and slowly became more and more unstable not showing any hard drive storage pool or volume data.
turning the HD power off setting back to 30 mins and the system was happy again.

Anyone else ?
