TOS7

Post by Gremlin »

After more than 300 days of dedicated development and collaboration by hundreds of engineers, TOS 7 is here as the world's first AI-native NAS operating system: smarter, friendlier, and more refined.
The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys independently and at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type any given text, including the complete works of William Shakespeare.
The Plymouth Zoo Experiment: In 2003, researchers from the University of Plymouth left a computer keyboard with six Sulawesi crested macaques. Rather than creating literature, the monkeys mostly mashed the letter "S", used the machine as a toilet, and eventually destroyed it.
Question: Who performs quality control on AI?
F5-221 TOS7.0.1130 - 4x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid
F2-424 TOS7.0.1130 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid
F2-221 TOS7.0.1130 - 1x3TB Ext4, 1x4TB Btrfs
F2-425+ TOS7.0.1130 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (EXOS) Traid

Thank you for your feedback.

Your sense of humor is highly appreciated, but you have also raised a very serious and crucial question: in the era of AI, how do we ensure system stability and security?

First and foremost, please rest assured that the development and routine maintenance of TOS 7 strictly adhere to the highest standards of software engineering practices. "AI-native" implies that the system is deeply integrated with AI-powered capabilities (such as intelligent management, efficient search, etc.), rather than meaning that the system code is randomly generated by an AI.

Regarding the quality control you inquired about, here is how we ensure system integrity:

1. Rigorous Code Review: All code and interfaces involving AI capabilities undergo manual inspection and review by senior software architects.
2. Comprehensive Testing Cycles: This includes extensive unit testing, integration testing, and full regression testing to guarantee that the introduction of AI features never compromises the core stability of the OS.
3. Security and Privacy Isolation: AI modules operate within controlled sandboxes or strictly defined permission boundaries, ensuring they never interfere with core, low-level security infrastructure.

Over the past 300+ days of development, a massive amount of effort was dedicated to quality control and debugging to ensure the rigor and stability of this official release.

Now that the official version of TOS 7 is live, our commitment to optimization continues. We highly welcome users with a sharp, critical eye like yourself to share your feedback during your daily usage. Your oversight is invaluable in helping us continuously refine and perfect the system.

I appreciate the comment and the response - one of the first I have seen that gives some depth to the process.

As a geek with over 4 decades in software development I feel compelled to call foul here. (Hopefully this time when I click preview this site won't gag and lose everything yet again.) I also write an award winning technical book series besides developing software for medical devices.
  • It is physically impossible to code review an LLM. The path through the pirated books and scraped web sites is basically random
  • When one submits the same query 100 times to any browser based search engine AI, you get roughly 99 different answers. This makes extensive testing impossible.
  • Any AI worth using .
  • AI is the new buzz phrase marketing slaps on everything. I recently finished a medical diagnostic device that claimed AI. Nope, it was time honored spectral analysis. Marketing, however, called it AI because now AI has no solid definition.
My real reason for coming here is to ask why Terramaster feels compelled to SPAM those of us owning registered products you have long since abandoned about new OS versions that physically cannot run on them. I just opened another email this morning. You haven't care about my F4-210 in many years. This past holiday season I upgraded it to four 14TB drives. If it physically croaks I'll set up an Alma server.

Why did I upgrade? One WD RED 4TB drive died in the NAS. No red lights. No error messages. No indications of trouble what-so-ever. A second drive was on the way out. The only symptom was the NAS randomly disconnecting from the network.

Due to hardware limitations, the F4-210 only supports up to version 4.2.44 and cannot install newer operating systems. If needed, you can trade in for a new product at a discounted price.
