GIF as a wallpaper

it would be awesome to be able to set a GIF as a wallpaper. My old Synology DS918+ allowed this but it appears to not be allowed in TOS7 on my new F6-424 MAX. Of course this is not critical, i just like active wallpapers

Are you sure you need this feature? It does come with some downsides. Here are the potential issues with animated wallpapers:

Visual interference​ – If the GIF has strong color shifts, high contrast, or frequent flashing, it can make desktop icons, window edges, and text harder to read.

Increased performance overhead​ – NAS management interfaces typically run in a browser. Continuous GIF decoding and redrawing consumes CPU/GPU resources, which may be more noticeable on low-end clients, remote access sessions, or weak network connections.

Reduced UI responsiveness​ – If the wallpaper animation shares the same rendering environment as the UI, it may cause frame drops when dragging windows, opening menus, or switching pages.

Accessibility risks​ – Flashing or rapidly moving images may cause discomfort for some users and could violate accessibility best practices.

I realize there may be some minor down sides to having a GIF wallpaper but if adding support isn't terribly difficult it would be nice to have the option. while the accessibility concern is valid, this is not a concern for me and if it becomes a concern I can always revert to a static wallpaper. I do not have any low-performance clients, if a client can't render a GIF it's going to ewaste recycling, can't imagine anyone would run into that. If a Synology NAS running on a celeron processor from 2016 can handle the overhead them I'm sure a 12th gen i5 won't even flinch. like I said this isn't a critical thing. just something that I would like to have.
