[Help] Need to remove Volume1

Post by Nikdfish »

I have a F2-423 equipped with 20GB RAM, 1x256GB Nvme + 1x1TB Nvme JBOD, 2x 12TB TRAID and a
D4-320 4x 8TB TRAID. The system previously resided on the Nvme drives but has been migrated to the two 12TB internal drives.

Volume1 consists of the two Nvme drives as a JBOD. The 1TB Nvme has been causing overheat error messages that cause a system shutdown. What happens to the system when I remove the Nvme drives? I don't see any alternative to removing the Nvme drives. Due to price increases, I do not see buying replacements as a possibility.

All significant application data (i.e. PC backups, surveillance videos & Jellyfin databases) reside on the internal & external HDD drives. Can I just remove the Nvme drives and reinstall any applications that had their configuration data on Volume1?

I went ahead & removed the Nvme drives & restarted the F2-423. Currently have TOS 7.0.0765 installed.

I attempted to re-install Jellyfin and Surveillance Manager, specifying Volume2 for application installs. The system said they installed successfully but both are hung at "enabling". I have not deleted Storaage Pool 1 or Volume1, which shows as corrupted because the Nvme drives are not accessible.

Any suggestions for getting things back to normal?

You can delete the volumes and storage pools originally created on the two NVMe SSDs. When uninstalling the applications, be sure to check the option to delete their configuration files, and then reinstall these applications on the new volume.

I have done so, followed by a system reboot. I also have updated to TOS 7.0.0777. FWIW, TerraSync and USB Copy apps appeared to install correctly and can be opened.

When I install Jellyfin and Surveillance Manager I still get the same behavior. I get a message that the app has been successfully installed, with an installation location of "/Volume2/@apps" but the app never gets enabled. When I click the enable button, I get the message "enabling" but it never finishes. When on the apps panel, Jellyfin and Surveillance Manager show "Enable" buttons, not "Open" buttons.

Is this due to there being no Volume1, even though the defaut application installation location is set for Volume2? Are Jellyfin and Surveillance Manager constrained to only install correctly if Volume1 exists?

If I delete volume 2 and storage pool 2 and then rebuild the F2 internal disk's storage pool & volume, will the newly created pool and volume be storage pool 1 and volume 1?

The inability to enable is unrelated to Volume 1. We need to remotely investigate the specific reason. Please visit the link and schedule an appointment with online customer service for remote assistance:

I installed new copper heat sinks w/ new thermal pads on the Nvme drives and reinstalled them swapping the install locations (1 TB vs. 256 GB). The system recognized the drive contents & re-enabled pool1 & volume 1.

I reinstalled Jellyfin & Surveillance Manager. Both enabled & ran properly. Nvme drive temps are all in the normal range so far, tracking about the same as the CPU temps.

We will see how things go over time, but fingers crossed.
