[Help] How to restore a Duple backup to a different Duple vault (no encryption)

Post by CraftyClown »

Hi there, I'm looking for some assistance in restoring an old Duple backup that had been duplicated to the cloud. Unfortunately the server that held the vault became corrupted and no longer exists, so I want understand how to restore the backup without the original vault. I don't recall what method I used for the backup, however looking in the task_info.json I can see that the backup is not encrypted

Any help understanding how to restore this would be greatly appreciated

If your cloud Duple backup files are unencrypted and complete, you can restore the data without the original server.

The steps to follow are as follows:
  • Prepare the device: Use a TNAS running the latest TOS system (it is recommended to purchase a new device; for purchasing advice, you may consult the online customer service on the official website).
  • Install the application: Install Duple Backup from the App Center.
  • Create a restore task: Open the application, go to the "Restore" tab, and click "Create".
  • Connect to the cloud: Select the cloud service provider where your backups are stored and log in to your account.
  • Identify metadata: In the file browsing window, select the backup folder containing the .duple files. The system will automatically scan and rebuild the file list.
  • Perform the restore: Follow the wizard to select the restore destination and start retrieving the data.
Hope this helps.

From above: Identify metadata: In the file browsing window, select the backup folder containing the .duple files. The system will automatically scan and rebuild the file list.
If the duple file is very large, a backup of ~2tb will it take some time before the restore actually starts copying data?

Your idea is correct. During the process of identifying metadata, the system will scan and rebuild the file list, which takes some time before data copying begins.

It took about 6 hours before the restore actually started copying data.
At first I couldn't understand what was going on, after reading the above post, I understood.
