Hi all
I have a Terramaster F5-422 NAS running TOS5 with all 5 drive bays filled and I'm looking to expand my storage. Would a DAS be useful? as I understand it, a DAS is basically just a box of discs you can access on your network so could it be used to store additional films, etc I could access via Emby which I currently have installed on my NAS?
Thanks

Re: [Help] F5-422 expanding storage
Yes, you can use our DAS to expand the storage space of your NAS. You can create storage pools and volumes using the hard disks in the DAS on the NAS to store data.

Re: [Help] F5-422 expanding storage
Thanks for your reply. Could the same be achieved with a second NAS? So if I had two NASes of the same model, could I connect one to the other with a USB cable and use the second as additional storage?
Re: [Help] F5-422 expanding storage
The two NAS devices have independent operating systems, so this usage is not recommended.

Re: [Help] F5-422 expanding storage
I need to upgrade the das attached to my NAS system due to enclosure issues. Is it possible to move my existing drives from the HDD enclosure already plugged into my NAS to a new one without wiping the disks?
Re: [Help] F5-422 expanding storage
To provide you with accurate advice, I need to confirm a few details first:
- What are the specific models of your current DAS and the new enclosure you are planning to use?
- Is your current drive group in the DAS configured in a RAID array?
- Was the RAID created via the DAS hardware (e.g., using rotary switch on the back), or was it set up through the TNAS TOS system as a software RAID?
Re: [Help] F5-422 expanding storage
The current enclosure is an old 5 bay Orico 5 bay with no raid built in.
I will be moving to a D6-320
The storage pools set up in the TNAS share disks in a raid 0 setup through the TNAS TOS but that’s it

Re: [Help] F5-422 expanding storage
If the old device is not our DAS product, it does not support seamless data migration to the D6-320. We recommend backing up your data to an external storage device before proceeding.
