[Help] F4-424-Max random boot issues

Post by wander1236 »

This has happened twice now and I don't know what the trigger is. A few months ago, I noticed that the NAS had gone offline and toggling the smart plug it's attached to wasn't bringing it back. I went to it physically and noticed that the drives weren't running and the Ethernet port was completely dark. Manually rebooting it didn't do anything. What fixed it was removing all the drives, letting it boot, shutting it down, replacing the drives, and then booting it up again. I thought it might have been a one-time thing, but it happened again this afternoon, with the same symptoms and the same fix.

I don't know where to even start with this or which logs to pull. I'm not even sure if it's a software issue. The NAS is currently running TOS 7, but the first time was on TOS 6.

If you use a "smart plug" as the power source, there is a high risk the o/s will be corrupted by any shutdown via that plug. If you don't have a UPS the only {reasonably} safe shutdown is via the operating system. On the other hand I believe it has been shown that an unstable power supply (whether the supplied/3rd party 12v transformer) or utility power can cause intermittent abnormal shutdowns (normally followed by a notification message) and immediate restart. If using 3rd party 12v power make sure you have the correct size DC plug for the NAS.

Do you still have this issue? My F4-424 Max seemed to have the same issue starting from almost 2 weeks ago. I'm trying the fix in this thread for now: viewtopic.php?t=10109

Based on the symptoms you described, your case appears to be very similar to several reports we have received from other users. We recommend following the guide below and testing the suggested solution:

https://download2.terra-master.com/F4-4 ... eters.docx

We have already received feedback from some users indicating that, after completing the BIOS update and adjusting the kernel boot parameters as described in the guide, their NAS freezing, crashing, or unexpected shutdown issues were significantly improved or resolved.

We would appreciate it if you could follow the steps in the guide and continue to monitor the system's behavior afterward. Your test results are very valuable to us and will help us further investigate the root cause of the issue and validate the effectiveness of this workaround.

Once you have completed the procedure, please let us know the results. We will continue to follow up and work with you until the issue is fully understood and resolved.

Thank you for your understanding, cooperation, and support.
