[Help] slow file transfer using tos apps

Post by e2950 »

so i have a 2.5gb network setup between my synology and terramaster only on the 2nd networks of both nas's and iperf3 shows full speeds up and down. i have a synology and a terramaster f6 424 max. i am trying to move files from the synology to the terramaster. if i login to the synology and use their filemanager to push the files to the terramaster i get full speed but if i login to the terramaster and use any of the apps from terramaster to try to pull the files i only get transfers at 50-60 MB but if i use midnight commander on the terramaster i get 100MB. if i use a computer in the middle and pull files from the synology and push to the terramaster i get about 200MB. if i push files from the terramaster to the synology i get 280MB. if i push or pull from the terramaster to my computer i get 280MB. if i push or pull from the computer to the synology i get 280MB

Hi,
Regarding 50-60MB/s, could you specify the exact tools and methods you are using?
Some backup tools may exhibit slow performance due to checksumming and encryption.
Please note that if the source directory and target directory for testing are identical, the speed will be halved.

tools, tos 7 file manager, tfm backup, midnight commander from https://tmnascommunity.eu i have 2 networks. network one is 1 gb and is the internet connected network on a 192.168.1.0 network 2 is 2.5 gb and only has the synology, terramaster and my main computer connected with no internet on a 192.168.0.0 ip. i connect with smb over the 192.168.0.0 network for the file shares. from my computer i can get the full 280MB transfer speed to and from both the synology and the terramaster. from the synology web interface filemanger i can send and receive full 280MB transfer speed. from the terramaster web interface using filemaniger i can send to the computer or synology full 280MB transfer speed but when i pull a file from the comuter i get full speed but when i pull from the synology i only get 50-60 MB transfer speed but if i use midnight commander then i get up to 100MB transfer speed. if i use the computer to pull "copy" files from the synology and "paste" push to the terramaster then ill get transfer speeds of about 180-200 ish MB

I'm unsure of the specific method you used to pull files between the two NAS devices. Generally speaking, when file pulling occurs in one direction—whether from PC to NAS or NAS to PC—it is a unidirectional transfer. However, when transferring files between NAS devices (NAS-to-NAS), data transmission involves simultaneous bidirectional communication over the PC network card - Ethernet cable - router/switch, resulting in actual speeds being only half of the theoretical value.

I recommend setting up your comparative experiment as follows:

File Manager
NAS A → NAS B
NAS B → NAS A

Midnight Commander
NAS A → NAS B
NAS B → NAS A
