G'day,
Have tried 3 DAS units in order to find one for my remote location media server. The Terramaster became the desired one except for the loud disk drives noise. Any suggestions that I could implement to solve this before I return it?
Thank you in advance,
Jan
My Key needs:
1. USB C Gen 2 (10Gbps)….all pass
2. Quiet fan
3. Quiet disks
4. Drives back running after 4+ hour power interruption
5. Drives temp OK running continuously (use HD Sentinel to keep running)
Results from testing using same 4 hard drives:
(a) SABRENT DS-SC4B…………... 2: fail (3/10) 3: pass (9/10) 4: fail 5: avg 38C
(b) TERRAMASTER D4-320……. 2: pass (8/10) 3: fail (2/10) 4: pass 5: avg 44C
(c) MEDIASONIC HF7-SU31C… 2: pass (7/10) 3: pass (7/10) 4: fail 5: avg 49C
Conclusion: Terramaster would have won, except for the very annoying hard disk noise. I need to return all and find another solution.

Hi dear customer, thank you for considering our product.
We suggest you record a video(with audio) and share it with us through any feasible method (forum private message, official website LiveChat, support email). Based on the video, we can determine the type and cause of the noise and provide solutions.
In addition, you can also try tilting the D4-320 slightly or placing it on its side at a 90-degree angle to see if it can significantly reduce the noise. This is likely caused by hard drive resonance.

Re: [Discussion] Did I get a defective D4-320 unit? Is there a TM alternative?
Thank you for response. But, as the disk noise is so much louder (I mean an order of magnitude louder) than any other of the now 5 external enclosures I have tested, I need to give up on the TerraMaster design. It is the relatively cooler enclosure for my mix of 2 WD Red 6,400 rev and Seagate 72,000 rev drives, but at least two of these drives do "resonate" with the TM enclosure versus the other brands enclosures. I assume that as the TM is also heavily venting on both of the sides of the enclosure (whereas the others don't) that this is also a big contributor to the disk noise.

We apologize for the inconvenience. Could you please record a video of the issue? We will have our engineers analyze it to provide a solution specific to your situation.
