[Help] TERRAMASTER D2-310 adding Drives with Data in Single Mode

Post by eavesphoto »

I have a TERRAMASTER D2-310 and I have 2- 20 TB drives 50% full (Mac formatted) that already have data on them. I want to remove the
older drives in the unit and replace them with the 2- 20TB drives. I want the DS-310 in Single mode
so the 2 drives mount on my Apple Mac Studio as 2 separate drives. I've been reading on a couple of websites that if I set the selector on the back of the drive in Single that the drives will be reformatted? My drives have data on them already. Would it damage do unit if I turn it off move the selector to Single, turn on the D2-310, then insert the 2- 20TB drives.
Will this preserve the the existing data on the 2- 20TB drives and have the 2 drives mounted on my Mac Studio desktop without an issue? Is this the correct procedure?
I DON'T WANT MY DATA REFORMATTED

Thank you

This is not the normal usage method. It is not recommended to do this. Instead, you should back up your data to another device first. If you are only switching the RAID mode, this will not format the HDDs. However, please do not press 'Reset', as this will completely format all HDDs.

Are you trying to keep 1 RAID1 member HDD in Slot1 while installing a new Single HDD in Slot2? We have not tried this complex scenario and cannot guarantee its practical feasibility.

You can try switching to Single mode while keeping one RAID1 member HDD, and see if you can read the data. If reading is successful, you can consider using the Reset button with only the new HDD installed in the D2-310 to format the new HDD (this Reset operation only affects the HDDs installed in the D2-310). Then, use the RAID1 member (Slot1) and the new HDD in Slot2 together to see if the contents of both HDDs can be recognized.
