[Help] F6-424 Max freeze HDD

Post by Salvadore »

Hi,

i used a F4-423 with 4x 12T WD Ultrastar DC HC520 + 1T M.2 + 4T M.2 on Unraid for 2 years without any problems. Due to more power and slots i buy a F6-424 Max in Sep 2025. After moving all drives and Unraid to the new NAS all was working fine till end of Dec. Then i have a freeze - not the OS but the drive in the leftmost slot showing no reaction. Now i am trying to reboot but the NAS switch off after the beep. After pressing the powerbutton no reaction. 2-3 seconds later all LED shortly lighting and then off. 5 seconds later all LED on + beep and NAS switch off then. Removing all HDD brings device up. Then connect every drive step by step and starting the array brings the function back. The array "rebuild" overnight and all was fine for 2 weeks. Then the same process again. In every case the leftmost drive showing a error needs a rebuild. SMART says always all OK. Set this drive now to the second slot from the right. Now all used slots causes freezes every 4-5 days. At the end of Jan a "rebuild" overnight does not finish and ends in a freeze.
Since the first freeze i am not able to start the NAS with all 4 drives connected. Its only possible to start with 2 connected drives (independed from slot) and connect the other 2 drives later. I used second PSU with 12V 6A from a german company - same behavior.
I think the power supply on the mainboard is defective.
I use now the older F4-423 again with this configuration and it works fine like before.
