Troubleshooting Slow Speed or Detection Issues on Ubuntu (AMD USB4) — TerraMaster D4 SSD / D1 SSD Series

Post by TMnight »

Applicable Environment
Operating System: Linux Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS
Hardware Platform: AMD platform with USB4 interface
Affected Devices: TerraMaster D4 SSD / D1 SSD Plus / D1 SSD Pro

Issue Description
When the D4 SSD and theD1 SSD Plus are connected via an AMD USB4 interface, if Thunderbolt security authorization is not completed, the system falls back to USB 3.x compatibility mode. As a result, the PCIe high-speed channel is not activated, causing significantly reduced performance.
When theD1 SSD Pro is connected via an AMD USB4 interface, if Thunderbolt device authorization is not granted, the system blocks the PCIe channel, which may cause the NVMe SSD inside the enclosure to not be recognized.

Troubleshooting Steps for TerraMaster D4 SSD / D1 SSD Plus / D1 SSD Pro
1.When the device is connected, the system will display a “Unauthorized Thunderbolt device” notification.
2.Open System Settings → Privacy → Thunderbolt.
3.Click “Unlock” in the top-right corner and enter the administrator password to allow changes.
4.Enable “Direct Access”, then locate the TerraMaster device model under “Pending Devices”.
5.Click the device entry and select “Authorize and Connect” in the pop-up window.
