[Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
It just gets worse. After the NAS began responding again, I added a 2TB USB drive, and set up a shared folder on it. I moved about 100GB from the raid drive to this one. Today, I started the NAS and the shared folder has disappeared. It recognizes the usb drive, but there is no shared folder. How can I recover these files??
Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
For F4-210(TOS4), you cannot create a shared folder on a USB drive. If you are doing this via a command, the system may not be able to handle such an 'unexpected' operation.

Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
Just to be clear, it is a portable hard drive connected to the nas via the usb port on the back of the unit. It is possible, I did it. The drive was formatted, created a storage pool and shared folder. I then transferred something like 30 GB of files to it. 2 days later the NAS can’t see the storage pool or shared folder any more.
Btw, now I cannot connect to the NAS at all. It doesn’t recognize the admin userid/pswd.
Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
Does 'Unable to recognize administrator username and password' refer to being prompted with an error even when entering the correct username and password on the login page? This can be resolved by reinstalling the system and resetting the username and password. We recommend that after reinstalling the system, if you encounter an issue where the storage pool cannot be recognized, collect a system report and send it to us for analysis.

Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
Even if you created a storage pool and shared folder using the HD on USB via instructions. When you restart the F4-210, the NAS system cannot automatically recognize, start, activate, and mount them. It is recommended that you use them as USB storage through operations on the Control Panel page.

Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
That is incredibly ridiculous - the system allowed me to create the pool and shared folder, move data to it, then on restart completely screwed me with no warning. You really need to change the system to not allow it in the first place! I've lost 30GB of data.TMzethar wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026, 18:09 Even if you created a storage pool and shared folder using the HD on USB via instructions. Yes, that is what is happening. I was able to connect to it but get the "initialize" page now, no login page. If I understand you correctly, I should be able to view the storage pools and data once I do the reset? I will recreate the same userid and password I had before so unless it uses a unique GUID type authentication, I should be able to access all the same data, correct?GevinKe wrote: ↑19 Jan 2026, 00:59 Does 'Unable to recognize administrator username and password' refer to being prompted with an error even when entering the correct username and password on the login page? Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
Just to add to the confusion - I now get "refused to connect" from the NAS IP address. Router says it's connected (wired connection), chrome and safari get refused connection.ps2g45 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026, 03:32Yes, that is what is happening. Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
I think the USB mount disk you mentioned earlier should be something similar to "usb_shared 1". Do you remember its file system format? You might consider connecting it to a PC or Mac, using Disk Utility to check and repair any possible partition file system errors. Additionally, you could take the opportunity to check the condition of the HDD.

Re: [Help] F4-210 starts up then shuts down and dead.
I don’t recall exactly but it’s not readable by my Mac. It’s a Linux oriented file system and it specifically disallowed any FAT or AFP file system. The NAS (when it was still working) could see the drive but said there was no storage pool or shared folder on it.
