[Help] Difference between Team Folder backup/history and Client's synced folders?

TerraSync is a cloud drive service application that helps users build their own private cloud drive services with their TNAS devices.

[Help] Difference between Team Folder backup/history and Client's synced folders?

Post by qu4ntumrush »

I have only approximately 4.5 TB and 1.1 million files of data to use on my F2-425's 12 TB drive, but after installing Terrasync the ter_sys chunks folder is now 4.35 TB and 2.7 million files. I would like to synchronize selected subfolders (all audio and music and some photos) on my desktop PC, but I don't need extensive file history as I have another external 12 TB drive I backup with rsync once a week - and I use FreeFileSync and rsync to synchronize videos. I thought emptying the Terrasync recycling bin and reducing file history from 8 to 1 (in Terrasync/Manage Team Folders/Edit) would clear the space, and while I saw in the logs copies being deleted, I haven't gotten any space back after 3 hours. My questions are, first, why am I able with the PC client to select subfolders to sync but without apparent file history options, while with the web app I am forced to use an entire shared folder and volume (all NAS data) to backup on the same volume/disk? It's like they're two different apps with different jobs but apparently I have to use both and double at minimum my usable space. Second, are there any other auto-sync apps that work on TOS 6 and EXT4 file systems like the Terrasync PC client but without any mandatory file history or backup tasks - or can I disable backups for files/folders I don't want to sync?

Hi, regarding the space issue you mentioned, we are aware of it. The .ter_sys directory is used by TerraSync for its snapshot mechanism, primarily to support file history functionality. You can try using TerraSync on a BTRFS file system, where file history occupies almost no additional space as long as the source files exist.

1.Currently, there is no option to disable this feature—it is enabled by default for file history functionality. TerraSync supports synchronization across different volumes and disks. You can add shared folders from different volumes within TerraSync for data synchronization.

2.You can try Aomei Sync as an alternative.
