[Help] Degraded Raid, Unable to Restore

Post by TPiatek360T »

I have a F4-424 Pro using TNAS 5.1 with a TRAID using 3x20TB Exos drives. A recent series of power outages contributed to a drive degrading and needing replacement. No problem - I pulled it out, popped in a replacement, and... nothing. The drive is recognized, and I can even add it to a new storage pool, but the degraded storage pool has no "edit" function available to allow restoration. The "edit" button is grayed out and unselectable. I tried creating a secondary storage pool hoping that it would allow it to be merged, but no such luck. Will it just decide to repair itself on its own after a while if I leave it alone?

I couldn't find anything that I thought relevant - one response suggested TELNETing in, but I installed Putty, followed the basic instructions, and my connections are refused.

Any help would be appreciated,
Tim

Hello, what is the capacity of the new hard drive?

It needs to be at least 20TB or more to join the array for repair.

All drives are 20Tb Exos drives - old and the new one alike.

The edit button may be unavailable because the current volume is in use.

We need more information to analyze this issue.

Please collect a system report and send it to our email: [email protected].

OK, it looks like to generate a system report you need to use Putty or some Telnet client, and as I said, this isn't working - "connection refused" is all I get. So if there's no way to generate a log or report in another way, I'm stuck. I'm e-mailing support, we'll see if anything can be done.

You can create a system report from (I think) the control panel in Tos5.1. Anyway, look for the help and support icon ('headset') and select "Report Issues".
F5-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 4x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid
F2-424 TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid
F2-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 1x3TB Ext4, 1x4TB Btrfs
F2-425+ TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (EXOS) Traid

I'll check there, thanks - didn't see anything that looked like it would generate a system report, and Google was unhelpful - the instructions just pointed to a forum post here that suggested the non-starter Putty approach.
