[Help] F2-424 (terminal via HDMI port) - (df command) what do you see?

Post by shenzhixian »

Hi there,

First post on the forum and need help and or assistance. In terminal logged in as "root" on the F2-424, when I type "df -h". I do not see my 6TB mirror or any "/dev/???" device that displays a terabyte of storage. Should I be able to see the RAID-1 mirror of 2x 6TB HDDs when I type "df -h"??? I am currently troubleshooting to see if my drives or faulty or if the F2-424 is faulty.

Thanks to those who reply. :)

What version of TOS (if you are using TOS) are you running? A new -424 model would default to at least TOS5 and updated to TOS6. In which case "root" would not be a recognised user - so what do you mean by "root".

Otherwise, the answer to your question is a qualified yes and no! Yes you should be able to see the file system(s) but no, you may not recognise them as the raid mirror you expect.

This is not typical but a fair representation:

Code: Select all

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/md9 7.5G 2.3G 4.8G 32% /
tmpfs 50M 28K 50M 1% /dev/shm
tmpfs 2.0G 7.0M 2.0G 1% /run
tmpfs 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock
tmpfs 512M 12M 501M 3% /tmp
/dev/mapper/vg0-lv1 3.6T 1.3T 2.3T 37% /Volume2
/dev/mapper/vg2-lv0 2.7T 696M 2.7T 1% /Volume1
//192.168.155.10/Backups  5.5T  1.5T  4.0T  28% /Volume1/T1-Remote
The last entry is a remote mounted folder on another nas.

Thanks @Gremlin for your reply. My F2-424 is running TOS 5.1. I tried to upgrade to TOS 6 but was unable to since the F2-424 stated TOS 5.1 was the latest version. Go figure?!?! As for "root", the default login screen requires a user credential. My regular username & password failed during authentication so I had to login as "root".

I appreciate the output of your NAS using (df -h). It seems that my 2x HDDs are faulty because I do not even have a "/Volume1" that shows the full path of my RAID-1 mirror. I setup my RAID-1 mirror using the default "/Volume1" naming convention but it looks like the HDDs are broken or something.

Lastly, I noticed on your signature that you too have a F2-424 running TOS6. How was that even accomplished??? I setup my NAS to RAID-1 instead of TRAID but that should not make any difference. I am using the same capacity HDDs which are Seagate Ironwolf 6TB.

I did Beta testing of the TOS6 and lots of "experimentation"! I would guess I have clean installed TOS versions over 20 times!
You can find direct installation packages on the TM support pages (*.ins files). Or you can follow the update announcements in this forum. If you want to do a clean install of TOS 6, you might be better off ensuring your disks are wiped of the extraneous information on there now. You will also need to follow the screen prompts for Custom install rather than the default automatic prompts.

The fact you are logging in as root may well be preventing access to folder data so you don't get a clean result, but I would have expected other warnings.

You have a 424 series TNAS that shipped with the previous generation initboot internal USB; if you'd like to be on TOS 6, you'll need to update/replace that internal USB with or create a new USB drive with the TOS 6 UEFI initboot; it's detailed @ viewtopic.php?t=6433

@Gremlin 20x instances of reinstalling TOS6?!?! Yikes.... I appreciate the tip!

@crisisacting Thank-you for the weblink to the TOS 6 installation thread. Will get right on it and see if I can complete a successful install.
