I would like to use an operating system other than TOS (such as UnRAID), primarily due to the slow file transfer speeds to my clients because it uses a TNAS server in between, and DDNS is not possible.
I would like to know if the RAID5 created by TOS would be compatible with another NAS OS. Dumping all the data and making a backup is impossible because I don't have enough space for the 200TB RAID5.
Does anyone have any experience with whether the RAID5 created by TOS would be compatible with another operating system?

Re: RAID compatibility with other O.S
i have no experience in this but as its a linux based system my guess is that it technically is possible based on other OS's using the same raid technology, however googling it you get mixed reports as it all does depend on the other system being able to understand the RAID meta data
hopefully someone with more technical knowledge will reply and wow 200Tb is a lot, but presumably you have a backup procedure in place and arent solely relying on the NAS drive as the only version of the data?

Re: RAID compatibility with other O.S
Thanks for answering. That's the same question I have, because some links say yes and others say no, especially depending on the controller that created the RAID (which in my case wouldn't be a problem because it would be the same TM NAS).
Yes, I have a backup portion, but I only have 70TB, so it doesn't cover the full 200TB.
I would also appreciate it if anyone has experienced switching from TOS to another OS and has been able to recognize the Raid created by TOS.
