[Discussion] F8 Plus SSD Storage Expansion Options [SOLVED]

Hi, Got the F8 Plus NAS running on Unraid and it has been brilliant for my needs. I have fully populated it with 8 x4tb nvmes in a storage pool.

Just wondering what is the best option to expand the storage? All the 3.2 usb ports are free. A few options I can think of are;

1: Replacing the 4tb with 8tb NVMEs (but expensive).
2: Connecting three more 4tb drives with single enclosures such as these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0B ... FPIF&psc=1
3: Buying a D8 Terramaster Hybrid. This would need its own plug, possibly introduce noise if its not as quiet as the F8, and have unneeded HDD trays (main reason I love the F8 is because it's near enough silent).
4: Buying a F8 (None plus) and using it as a DAS to the F8 Pro.

Is there perhaps a clear winner or an option I haven't thought about?

Hey, I had the same idea, but at the moment it's still too expensive for me. I would also go with USB-C for this product, but I'm waiting for the price to come down.

With the F8 Standard only £120 more in the current sale for an extra 4 bays, this looks to be the best option, over the D4 SSD.

Does anyone know if we can use an additional F8 as a DAS to an existing F8? (Currently running Unraid Storage pool). Would love a definite answer before I pull the trigger

As you say it is highly likely that Yes, you can use a second F8 with your current F8 on the same Unraid system if connected independently to the server, but it is not a true expansion for the first F8 unit.

Reddit seems to think the answer is yes, but Mike from the Terramaster chat seemed fairly certain the answer is no.

With so much ambiguity and the D4 still not available to UK people (it has just been an empty listing for weeks) I decided to save the money from getting a D4 and get two 8tb NVMEs on Prime day and put them in the expansion I listed in the OP. It's working flawlessly so really happy there. The expansion can be put vertically next to the NAS and it looks really neat as well.
