[Help] D5-300 Thunderbolt 3 on Linux

I just purchased a D5-300 Thunderbolt. I put 2 drives in and created a RAID 0 using Raid Manager Pro in Windows.

Now I want to use it on an Ubuntu 24.04 Linux machine. I attached the DAS to the Linux machine and it recognized the hardware, but it only saw 2 raw disk devices at /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. I could not see the combined RAID device anywhere in Linux.

I was under the impression that I could configure the RAID on windows using Raid Manager Pro, and then when I connect it to Linux, it would see the RAID that was previously configured. But this doesn't seem to happen.

How do I get the Linux system to see the RAID, instead of seeing the 2 raw drives?

The D5-300 Thunderbolt device is currently only compatible with Windows and macOS operating systems. It has not been optimized or adapted for Ubuntu 24.04 Linux systems. Therefore, when accessing RAID arrays created by a Windows system in an Ubuntu 24.04 environment, recognition issues may occur.

You can try setting up RAID using third-party tools in Linux. Here are some recommendations: Use tools like mdadm or mdadmex to create RAID arrays. Configure array parameters through commands, ensure data backup, and monitor the status for performance optimization after setup.

I guess I saw the specification page:

And since it lists “ext4” file system, I concluded that it supported Linux.

I guess I’ll just use ZFS on the raw devices. Not super happy about it, but probably easier than returning the device and starting over.

Sorry for the bad experience. The Windows system also supports the 'EXT4' file system. The final supported system is based on the systems our product supports and what is officially stated.
