[Help] Using Synology DSM as a UPS server for Terramaster (or the other way around)

Post by bartmans99 »

I have a couple of NASses. Some Synology and a new Terramaster. I use an APC UPS BX750MI to gently shutdown the NAS in case of power loss.

How can I use this UPS with both Synology as Terramaster? Both DSM and TOS don't seem to support other brands.

If DSM ups function is based on NUT, you should be able to get it to talk to TM when TM is set as server, but you may need to authenticate with ups username/password. We did this some time ago when getting NUT for Windows client to interact with TM - not wholly successful, but it did communicate. But, since Nut for Windows was not being developed seriously did not pursue it. Otherwise you might consider more universal SNMP communication which is available on TM.

Figured it out. I added the IP for the Terramaster in the Synology UPS settings. And activated UPS on Terramaster with 'TNAS UPS Server' and then http://ip_for_the_synology:8181

It found and showed the UPS (an APC) and connected. When I move the TM to its final place I of course will check if a shutdown actually occurs :-).

Hello,

I am interested in doing something quite similar by connecting a Home Assistant Client to TNAS NUT server.
Did you manage to get it working this way (using TNAS as server and not as client)?
Also how did you manage the login question, because even in using TNAS as client and not server, i cannot see somewhere to enter the login details for connection.
Thanks
