Terrasync Client Synchronizing Slow

Post by digi999 »

Hi all

I'm using my old f4-423 to take backups from my new f6-424. I have it set up to terrasync on the 432 is kept upto date by terrasnc client on my 424 (so multiple folders on my main system are basically kept at exact replicas on my 423)

I've transferred all my files manually over to the 423 so the folders are EXACTLY the same (for example plex TV folder on my 424 is an EXACT copy of the one on my 426) but terramaster client is syncing it from the beginning like the file aren't even there, I have 13,000 files left to sync even though its already been transferred over. any idea if I can change any settings so it just knows the files are already there and it just needs to sync any new ones I add please?

many thanks

Any sync process the initial sync must needs build a list of files for later comparison (in whatever way it does that) so the initial sync would always be slow, I think. Whether the Terrasync is the best option is debatable - I am currently using TFM Backup (in mirror mode) for a similar scenario but also in incremental for one-off updates. Once the mirror copy is made, the updates are pretty rapid. My only issue is that the smaller nas (F2-221) I run as the "controlling server" is sluggish (99% load) when performing large(r) transfers.
F5-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 4x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid
F2-424 TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid
F2-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 1x3TB Ext4, 1x4TB Btrfs
F2-425+ TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (EXOS) Traid

Sure, you need to confirm that the paths in the local and remote directories are at the same level and that the file contents are identical. During the initial synchronization, it starts from the beginning because it needs to compare and synchronize files with different contents. After the initial synchronization is complete, only new files will be synchronized subsequently.
