[Help] Cannot connect to NAS drives after period of inactivity

Post by tiptonian »

NAS = F2-210 running TOS 4-2-43 fitted with single Samsung SSD 870 EVO 4TB

I'm really struggling to fathom this out. I first noted this when the Network drives I had set up in Windows 10 for some NAS folders failed with the message Q:\ is not accessible - specified network name is no longer available. I tried setting up the drive letters again but Windows could not see the NAS. After a NAS reboot however it seemed to work again and I reset the drive letters. Next day however the problem was back. After some experimentation I discovered that:

1. After a NAS reboot, existing drive assignments will work as long as they accessed within about 45 minutes of the reboot.
2. Similarly new drive assignments can be made within about 45 minute of the NAS reboot.
3. Any attempt to access the NAS more than about an hour after a reboot will always fail with the not accessible message.
4. Once the NAS has been accessed within 45 mins the network availability and drive assignments continue to work, possibly until the Windows machine is switched off.
5. Exactly the same issue happens with a desktop and 2 laptops so it's unlikely to be a Windows issue.
6. Plex access from my Smart TV is not affected by the issue so probably not a hub issue
7. Likewise remote accesss to the NAS from outside the local network via TNAS.online is not affected.
8. I did change the battery in the NAS box but it didn't make any difference.
9. Doesn't make any difference if the NAS reboot is initiated through the power switch or by power lead removal.

I would be most grateful for any assistance in solving this.
