initial TOS 6 setup on F4 426 Max

Post by atem55 »

Hi,
I have 4 4TB HDD's and 2 500gb nvme's. Ive installed TOS on one of the NVME's, with a TRAID volume on the 4 HDD's.

Is it possible to partition the nvme 1 system disk, where TOS 6 is currently installed and use it for my docker, appdata type storage? Ivev read some posts that suggest it is, but only at initial setup, so i just restored to factory defaults to see if i missed something, but get no option, just to custom install TOS on the nvme.

If its not possible, i suppose the next best is to leave tos on nvme 1 and setup a hyper cache for volume 1 (the 4 TRAID HDDs) and install docker apps etc on the TRAID, with caching on nvme 2. It does seem a huge waste of space for nvme 1 though, with only TOS 6 on it?

When you install TOS6 on a drive or array (nvme or otherwise) you should see a default storage volume (Volume1) on the same drive/array. The default volume is, typically, where apps are installed in hidden folders - specifically /Volume1/@apps. You are offered options to store applications on other volumes. Along with apps, Volume1 will also contain things like /homes and /public.

Hi,
It hasn't created a volume 1 on the system disk? And i had no option of creating one when installing TOS 6 on nvme 1, in the control panel it just shows as system disk, and my first volume (1) was created on the 4 hdds? And if i try and create a new volume on nvme1 , the system disk, it warns off deleting everything obviously.

Ok, so, simply creating a new storage pool on nvme 1, the system disk, worked fine, i dont know how much space the system partition is using, but storage pool is 455.71GB on a 500GB WD RED nvme, so it must be fairly small.

Now im wondering if its better to remove the hyper cache on nvme 2, which is caching the HD array (which is mostly going to be storing media files) and create a storage pool as a RAID, or TRAID using both NVME's? and not worry about a hyper cache atall. As the nvme's would be used for my docker appdata etc., db's etc. Im guessing that i wouldnt see alot, if any benefit on a cache on the media files as they are usually large multi gb files that are just being streamed?

You can see the exact sizing for the system partitions at:
ControlPanel > Disk > Disk: then expand the particular drive.
The o/s itself is only an 8Gb partition. (ie very small)
