i have got a question about encrypted shared folders:
I have just bought a Terramaster F8 SSD Plus NAS (TOS Version: 6.0.650) and created several encrypted shared folders on volume1
These Folders are mounted. After a reboot these folders are still mounted. Thats a security issue!
Is there a way that these mounted folders are being automatically dismounted during a reboot or shutdown ?

Re: [Help] TOS6: encrypted shared folders are auto mounted after reboot
When the system restarts or you log out, an encrypted shared folder that is mounted will stay mounted. If you want it unmounted when you restart the NAS or log in again, unmount it before restarting or logging out.

Re: [Help] TOS6: encrypted shared folders are auto mounted after reboot
If you are happy with cli scripting you could set up a 'triggered' schedule task (on shutdown/boot/whatever) to mount/dismount folders. {Seems to me the security is in the encryption, not the accessibility}
Or, are you saying the folders are somehow mounted unencrypted after shutdown/reboot?

Gremlin: do you have an idea howto write a script with an unmounted command via cli scripting ?
(If its not possible via script i unfortunately will have to cancel my order of this NAS.)
Re: [Help] TOS6: encrypted shared folders are auto mounted after reboot
Not something I have ever had a need to think about. At a simple level I would rule out the idea of 'auto-mount' as that would need to use a stored key - seems self defeating - in 'plain sight'.
When shut down, the encrypted folder is 'secure'. Even if the drive were acessed it would still be encrypted.
If you are concerned about someone else booting and accessing the system without your permission/presence, you might need to look further into physical security - which applies whatever brand of nas you own.
What you are, in essence, looking for is how to ensure the drives are dismounted at the time the system is shut down (and remain dismounted). Perhaps @TM can offer a solution to that.
You (or keyholder) would then have to be present whenever the system is booted in order to mount the folders. That these are 'shared' folders that implies that other people need access.
If these folders contain your own private files, maybe a removable, plug-in drive might be more appropriate.

Thank you for your feedback. We will discuss this matter again.Rob68 wrote: ↑12 Apr 2025, 16:00 i have got a question about encrypted shared folders:

Your request differs from some other users' needs, but we will try to come up with a good solution to address it.
You can now unmount the encrypted shared folder before restarting the TNAS.

"Thank you very much for your support. I would greatly appreciate a solution. The background of my concern is as follows: If someone break into my house and steal the NAS (thus disconnecting it from power), the encrypted folders would remain decrypted, meaning my data would not be protected. However, if these folders were no longer decrypted once the NAS was removed, that would be a great advantage. With my Synology NAS or QNAP NAS, for example, the data is protected in such cases."

Re: [Help] TOS6: encrypted shared folders are auto mounted after reboot
Hi! This now requires entering a key every time the server is restarted. Can you make this an optional setting?
I would like to protect the information when physically removing the disk, but not enter the key every restart.

Re: [Help] TOS6: encrypted shared folders are auto mounted after reboot
Before restarting, did you manually unmount the encrypted shared folder?
