Cloudsync vs Duple for cloud backups?

Post by sim667 »

So I’ve had my F2-423 for quite some time, with about 2.5 TB of media library, that I’d managed to store a copy of on mega.nz using next cloud. Anyway, I had a problem with TOS, and reinstalled and done a massive reconfiguration of my NAS. By and large the data is in the same folders to match the data on mega, but there may be one or two changes.

So I want to link the local data and the mega location up again, but what I don’t want to do is have to re-upload all that data. So I don’t want it overwriting files that already exist in the right location on mega.

The intention behind the backup to mega is ultimately for off site backup. So which is the most suitable tool to achieve my aims? This isn’t a library that has lots of minor edits, it’s a library that sometimes has things added to it which of course I’d like backed up, it will occasionally have things removed, but what I don’t want occurring is a constant overwriting of pre-existing files on my server, and I’m pretty sure my ISP would appreciate that too.

So is duple or cloudsynce the best option?

Also I’ve just realised duple doesn’t connect to mega

Thank you.

I was also trying backup a Time Machine backup and the sparse bundle which gets written during back obviously it quite a dynamic file, so the backup fails because that’s missing. So I don’t know how to manage that.

Cloud Sync supports bi-directional synchronization with MEGA, which fully meets your needs. Why not give it a try?It also supports one-way upload and download.

Cloud sync does real time backups. You change a file on your TM and it will change the file on your cloud provider.

Duple does time based, or manual backups. It also compresses and password protects your backup in Duple format.

I find Cloudsync easier as it is "set and forget".

Both will achieve the same goal - to backup your data.

You will need to use Duple on a TM to restore a Duple backup. Clousdync files can generally be downloaded from your cloud provider to any device.
