Doesn't work on Firefox

Post by tanktarta »

The surveillance manager will not show any live previews when using the Firefox browser, just a blank, black screen. Most other functions seem to work, and its possible to download videos. But neither live previews or playback work.

This has always been the case. I have long wanted to make more use of this app, and check to see whether anything has changed after an TOS or Firefox update, but it remains stubbornly broken on any version.

I have tried on both Windows and Linux, with fresh profiles to rule out any extensions that might be interfering, but it just doesn't work.

The only clue I can find is this in the developer console as soon as I activate Live View. Chrome does NOT show this error and all works fine.

Code: Select all

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at wss://xxxxxx.xxxxxxxx.xxxxxxx:9000/surveillance/notice?token=cKBLGGb7hZ06w6obAkuzGYMcvo2foU7J9BvVy%2FD6qMRq2lZcY8m0n4ALLJwjFf%2BIDCnEZDlz3VZNMEKYmJ8ks8nq%2Bpimo4KpHZJDPPWHh4Wa9DX9cFxSOthvIovuJG0zhVDj%2BlA4mQttfpSaOzfmpFy7cxkCgbHntVWRAEoW9WP9MiSBywLinHs6sRk31t3ecMk5sDl6KvMGoNfnxbbbOELo1oUQOA%2FTTYlnGtUouUJamFouOJvvs5ysPFs5FVXP1DJdXpwqNIXtLq7UVgeSu%2F0CQRR38LaCPAM%2B%2BXwbKTd55882NW76eb9bHdjE50HRxyk0YIihtpWwM6Cr1WYN4g%3D%3D. chunk.chunk-56a62186.js:1:3311
Does the surveillance manager work for anybody else on Firefox?

We recommend using Chrome or Edge for playback. We have found that real-time and playback cannot be played on Firefox's HTTPS connections, but it works on HTTP connections. You may consider playing pre-recorded playback through Jellyfin when using HTTPS.

Thanks, I can confirm it does indeed work on HTTP as opposed to HTTPS.

But, neither using unencrypted HTTP or using Chrome for just this one application is really acceptable to me. I lived through Internet Explorer, and will fight back against being told to use a particular browser like the bad old days!

Your hint about HTTPS though led me to another solution.

Apparently this is happening because WSS (9000 ) is on a different port to the main HTTPS (443) connection. When you add a certificate exception in Firefox it is tied to the port number. And WSS does not prompt you to confirm or deny an exception to self signed certificates automatically.

You can work around it manually adding an exception for port 9000 in Settings -> Private and Security -> Certificates -> View Certificates -> Servers -> Add Exception.

and then ... "https://your.server.lan:9000" (note https here not wss it seems)

So I guess the only thing you could do to fix this out of the box for everyone would be the have surveillance manager run its web sockets on the same port as https.

Anyway, happy now. Thanks again.
