Transfer speeds

Post by Dalspaugh »

I’m new to Nas and I’m transferring files from external hard drives to my terramaster f4-210 and I’m curious what kind of speeds I should be getting? Mine is only going about 35mb/s. Am I doing something wrong? I’ve already transferred almost 3 tb but it took forever.

How large are the files? Lots of small files will be slower than a few larger files.

If your external hard drive is connected to your computer, that is an extra hop for them when copying to your NAS.

It can also depends on the speed of your external drive.

I can max out my 1GB connection on my F2-221 with a 5GB file doing around 115MBs, but if I am copying a couple of hundred small word docs it slows right down to around the 35MBs you refer to.

They are varied sizes. Doesn’t matter what size I transfer it goes 35 mb/s. I do have an external plugged into my pc and it is usb 3.1 I believe but I even transferred a file to my pc then straight to the nas and got the same speed.

Thank you for contacting TerraMaster! Transfer speeds are affected by a number of factors, which may be related to hard disk read/write performance, network speed, etc. You can also test the transfer speed from a USB device to your computer.

I've only just seen this. I had the same issue with one Windows 11 computer that I added to my network. Transfers between that computer and a F2-210 would cap at 35MB/s.

I found this link, which suggested the issue was due to SMB encryption. After making 2 registry changes and rebooting that computer, I'm now hitting over 100MB/s.

If your "slow transfer" computer is running Windows 11, have a read through.
