How to set up remote access

Can anyone explain how to set up remote access for my TNAS device using the TNAS PC app? I'm particularly interested in any security measures I should take to ensure my data remains safe while accessing it remotely.

Google "Can I setup ddns behind CGNAT" - which is a problem area for some and often overlooked in responses.
