Issues with WD drives in Terramaster D5-300C – Drives disappear after initialization

Post by AndreasK »

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a Terramaster D5-300C (DAS) to expand my storage solution by integrating two WD Red 6TB drives from a WD Book Duo along with a new Seagate IronWolf Pro 12TB drive. The 12TB drive is recognized and works without any issues, but I’m facing problems with the two WD drives.

The problem:

Initially, the WD drives appeared in Windows Disk Management, and I was able to initialize them.

However, when I tried to assign a drive letter, the drives disappeared from Disk Management.

To make them reappear, I have to power off and restart the Terramaster.

Once they show up again and I attempt to assign a drive letter, they disappear again.

This cycle repeats every time I try to initialize and assign a letter.

What I've tried so far:

Tried connecting only one WD drive – same issue.

Checked for firmware updates for the Terramaster – no new versions available.

My questions:

Has anyone experienced similar issues with WD drives in the Terramaster? Is there a way to properly initialize and integrate these drives without them disappearing? I also cant format them, because they disappear afterwards....

I appreciate any insights and suggestions! Thanks in advance.

As D5-300C slot hdd#1 and hdd#2 are features with hardware RIAD configuration. May I know which hdd slot you put your 6TB drives in? did you make any RAID settings for slot hdd#1 and hdd#2?
