The email notifications worked on TOS 5, but not after I upgraded to TOS 6. I'll wait and see what happens next.

Just updated from TOS5 to 6 and as above email notifications not working.
This occurs using built in SMTP server or custom, despite trying Gmail and Outlook - even creating new accouts specifically to test.
Seems a bit of a fundemental flaw you've released in the 'production' version - all excuses about user environments aside. In my case the NAS connects direct to the cable modem, receives network config via DHCP and a fixed lease, and accesses the internet via NAT. Every other network appliance on my network works fine - and theres a lot.
And despite the helpful (not) Gremlin advice to search the forum no closer to a solution, understanding or a glimmer of the cause and troubleshooting steps.

I think that issue it's not related with the user environment. Maybe It can be related with internet connection provider or user location or something else. If Terramaster considers that to be user environment, then yes.
But the truth is, as people say, (local) SMTP worked perfect in TOS 5 until I upgraded to TOS 6. I have the same "user environment".
Configurations I've tried:
- Local SMTP (fails)
- Using Gmail account (fails)
- Email account custom domain hosted by a hosting provider (works)
As a workaround while Terrmaster fixes this issue, if you don't have your own domain/hosting to test, there are some SMPT services that offer free sending messages by day, or somethig else. Maybe it will work

I agree this is not a 'user environment' issue - it's a broken SMTP implementation with users and their environments being scapegoats.
It's really not a production ready release, particularly for a pro-sumer market.
More enshitification of the internet and ICT products with the end user being on a constant beta program.
And this has been in formal beta for a damned long time.

Follow this guide to use gmail as smtp server in TOS6 (while TM will fix the local server)
