vbox vdi resize option

I am unable to resize my vdi files for virtual box guests. the option is missing in the GUI

i found this thread as well but it is locked it also indicates compatibility issues as well as dynamic disks not working correctly.

has the dynamic disk issue been resolved?

does resize via command line work ?
