It would be nice to add the feature to automatically lock every n-th snapshot or specific snapshot.
A good example is the case where snapshots are created every hour of the day.
It would be nice to be able to automatically lock every 24-th snapshot or the one at midnight to have a daily snapshot.
I could then delete all the snapshots and keep just a single one each day.
It would also be nice to be able to create tasks to lock/unlock/delete snapshots in a similar manner as you do to create them.
You just have to be certain of the ordering of tasks. Perhaps pre-creation, creation, and post-creation tasks.
This allows for interesting scenarios such as not limiting the number of snapshots and then running tasks to lock/unlock/delete specific snapshots at weekly, monthly, yearly intervals. For example: first create a task to make hourly snapshots, and create post-create tasks to unlock all the snapshots, lock all hourly snapshots for the last 3 weeks, lock each day hour 1 snapshots for the last 90 days, lock each month day 1 snapshots for 2 years, lock each year day 1 snapshots for 5 years, delete all unlocked snapshots.
Could the Snapshot app be extended to also enhance the handling of the File System Snapshots? I currently don't see any way to explore them in the File Manager.
Thank you,
David
Auto-lock for Snapshots
Re: Auto-lock for Snapshots
That's a fantastic idea, David!
I love the idea of having these functions available. Adding automated tasks for snapshot handling and better integration with the File Manager would make managing snapshots much more efficient and easier.

Anup

Re: Auto-lock for Snapshots
I think a lot of this depends on whether or not you view Snapshots as backups. I would rather have reliable backup software that does all that you seem to be asking for and then use Snapshots as quick(ish) 'disaster recovery'. Snapshots and backups work quite well together. Or, I suppose, you could regularly copy snapshots to another device and regain your file(s) from there.

Re: Auto-lock for Snapshots
Hello, David. Thank you for your feedback and suggestions.
Regarding your first point, the automatic lock feature for snapshots has been submitted to our product team. If it passes the review, it will be added to the requirements list for future new version iterations.
As for your second point, the snapshot application does not include the file system snapshot function. Instead, this function is located in the navigation bar at the top of the desktop under "Backup" > "File System Snapshot".

Re: Auto-lock for Snapshots
It would be great to add features for automatically locking specific snapshots, like every 24th or a daily one at midnight, simplifying long-term snapshot management. Tasks for locking/unlocking/deleting snapshots with scheduling options would also be very useful, allowing more advanced snapshot strategies.

This only shows the snapshot list, but doesn't allow you open the snapshots in order to pull files/folders out like the @snapshots created by the Snapshots app. It does have a 'Delete All' function this is missing from the Snapshots App that would be nice to have.

Re: Auto-lock for Snapshots
Hello,
Great suggestions, everyone! Automating snapshot locking and deletion at set intervals would definitely simplify long-term management. It would provide much more control and make snapshot strategies more efficient.
