migrate OS off HDD to NVME

Post by clonea1 »

Hello, i did not plan on doing NVME's in my unit (f6-424 max) however i am finding that IO can really slow this thing down and guests. so i want to get two NVMe drives and migrate the OS install and everything to those. is their anyway to do this ? or is this a start over wipe everything etc... ?

or is this something more like i can unplug all the HDD's install the nvme's as if fresh device. then plug the HDD's back in but then those would still have OS partitions so how do i tell it to boot from the nvme's etc... ?

I did similar the other day, moved from one NVMe to another one.

As you described, but before taking out HDDs I did backup of system config and restored it after OS install before putting HDDs back

Not sure about the boot order tho, I guess you need to check BIOS settings

ok so the thought would be, take a config backup

treat the machine as a virgin install be removing all the existing disks, install the nvme's install TOS to that

restore config
re insert data drives
boot to bios to figure out boot settings
