TRAID on F2-212
TRAID on F2-212
Can you please help me to understand how Raid1 is supposed to work? I have two drives set up under Raid1. I wanted to test it. So I pulled out Drive 1 hoping the data will still be on drive 2. With Drive 1 out, I was no longer able to communicate with the NAS via the IP address. I re-inserted drive 1. Still same problem of no communications. Then I tried shutting down the NAS from the button to restart it. It didn't shut down - I held the button for 10 seconds, but the NAS stayed running. I had to do a hard reboot (pulled the plug). Now it is communicating fine, but it's rebuilding the whole RAID from 0%. If I pull out the drive, should Drive 2 still work?

Even if 'hot-plugging' is enabled (and I'm not certain it is) I would suggest that it is a bad idea to just pull a drive from the enclosure. Normally you would pull a drive when the machine is shut down and ,on reboot the operating system would recognise the 'degraded array'. Yes, it would (or should) operate as 'normal' but in the degraded state until fixed (but typically with the alarm sounding). I don't know the details of your particular model so someone else will have to comment on that.
Pulling the plug will typically cause disk errors so raid rebuild is not uncommon and to be expected. Sometimes you will be lucky not to need os re-install after such an event. (Which is a good reason for a ups.)

Re: TRAID on F2-212
When you forcibly remove one hard drive from a working RAID 1 configuration, the data on that drive is still present because it's part of the RAID 1 setup. However, this does not necessarily mean that the system will continue to function normally. The reason is that the hard drive you removed might have been the default system drive, which contains critical components necessary for the system to operate.
In a RAID 1 configuration, data is mirrored across two or more drives, so removing one drive should not result in data loss. However, if the system was booting from or relying on the drive you removed for essential system files or configurations, the system may fail to operate correctly or may not boot at all.
