Upgrading disks on TD2 (older version)

I have various TD2 (TB3)s and I was just trying to upgrade the drives on the older one from 2019, it had 2 x 2TB 860EVO ssds in it and I put in 2 x 4TB 870 EVOs and all it does it blink red lights. I have tried doing the reset and that didn't help at all. The drives are recognised in a much older Raid drive (WD Velociraptor Duo) and I struggle to imagine that this TD2 can't support such common SSDs!
What to do? I just spent a lot of money on new SSDs for this to just fail. Between that and the NAS failing to upgrade I am having a frustrating week with Terramaster.
