f2-424 Compatibility

Post by adam12345 »

i bought the f2-424 and i want to use hard drive that i am currently using
but they are not in the Compatibility list.
what does it mean ? that they should work fine but were not tested by terramaster?

the models are
TOSHIBA HDWD240 (30C1S05YS5HH)
and
Drive #7 - ST3000DM001-1ER166 (W500NAMB)

thanks in advanced

I don't know what either of those drives are but best to consider that drives intended for desktop (or laptop) might not work "fine" for as long in a nas. Likewise drives intended for cctv applications. There are reasons that manufacturers designate drives for specific uses. Also you need to check on the differences between SMR and CMR type drives. SMR are (typically) not suggested for Nas use.
Certainly drives not on TM list have not been tested by TM. Some drives may appear that have been successfully used by customers but are usually noted as such.

Thanks for the answer,
I don't dispute the fact that those are not optimal, and they will be replaced in due time.
i just want to know if there is a reason they will not be recognized, and work properly.
regarding noise and speed i get it and it should be no different from using them on a desktop , same goes for read/write life time.

I bought a bunch of used drives off ebay and they are still working. Noisy as hell and I don't care about speed (yet). <shrug>
