Can I move HDD from F5-422 to F6-424 Max / TOS and HyperCache Questions

Post by Kanuki »

Hi.. everyone

I'm currently using F5-422 using TRAID and EXT4 file system
and interesting in F6-424 Max.

Can I move all of the HDD from F5-422 to F6-424 Max by following
the slot sequence without losing the data?

Does it really have to follow the slot sequence or just any slot will do?

------------------------------------------------------

What if I add 2 x 500GB NVMe SSDs into F6-424 Max during the initial setup.

Where will TOS be installed? NVMe SSDs or HDD pool?

Can I move TOS from HDD pool to NVMe SSDs if it's installed on my HDDs?

Can I use free space on NVMe SSDs as HyperCache if the TOS installed on my NVMe SSDs?

The answers to your questions may depend on the version of TOS you are using.
F5-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 4x4TB (Ironwolf) Traid
F2-424 TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (HGST) Traid
F2-221 TOS7.0.0777 - 1x3TB Ext4, 1x4TB Btrfs
F2-425+ TOS7.0.0777 - 2x500GB nvme (P3) Traid, 2x6TB HDD (EXOS) Traid

Since the F5-422 boots differently than the F6-424 Max, you will need to reinstall TOS.
From your previous posts, it seems that you have successfully installed TOS 6.0.420 beta using the F5-422. This means that the disk inside the F5-422 is already in the new partition format, and you won't lose any data when reinstalling TOS6.
If unexpectedly it prompts “Format/Delete”, there may be a problem with the storage, please contact our technical support e-mail or the official website customer service window for you to deal with the problem remotely.

The order of the disks does not matter.

The location of the TOS system depends on the choices you make when installing TOS.
SSDs cannot be used for the following two purposes at the same time.
Use 1: System & Storage
Use 2: Cache

Thanks for the answer.

What a waste on dual purpose NVMe SSDs.
