Hibernation and Auto Shutdown for TNAS

I am a user coming from Synology's DSM world, and I like TOS, but I miss two features that I consider essential for power management:

1. TOS 6 does not support hibernation of the device itself; only the disks hibernate, but not the entire TNAS.

2. There is no option for automatic shutdown of the TNAS due to inactivity. That is, once in hibernation, it would be ideal to have the option for the TNAS to shut down by itself after a set amount of time.

Additionally, it would be essential for the "TNAS Mobile" and "TNAS PC" applications to natively support WOL (Wake on LAN) and WOW (Wake on WAN).

NAS being a low-power server that requires fast response, we currently have no plans to design a whole hibernation function for it.
WOW is not possible at this time.
TNAS PC supports WOL and TNAS mobile has plans that will support WOL.

In a business environment, the value of a quick response is important; however, in a domestic setting, energy savings and noise levels are very important factors to consider, something that TM should take into account and that TOS should support.

In general, in my opinion, any device that does not perform any task within a certain period of time should have hibernation and auto-shutdown options available, and the owner should use them if they deem necessary.

I agree with @DekkaR, I also think auto shutdown is important feature, because I use the nas once or twice per week so I don't want it to keep running all the time.

1- Avoid time exposition to attacks
2- Avoid system and disks wear
3- Avoid electrical consumption
4- Avoid noise

At the moment as there is not integrated feature, i use a self developed customized script which manages my nas backups and shuts down after a predefined iddle period.

There are many scenarios where NAS devices perform tasks and then go idle. Synology, in DSM, has that option, and in my case, I really miss it. I work with databases and Python. When a task finishes, DSM first spins down the disks, then puts the NAS into hibernation, and finally shuts it down, if the user has configured it that way, with the benefits that @rapcat has correctly enumerated.

I believe this is a fundamental feature, and as of now, it is exclusive to DSM. If TM wants to make TOS 6 attractive to all kinds of users, but especially in the home environment, they should seriously consider this functionality.

I would like to ask @rapcat if they could share their script for all of us who are interested in this feature.

Another very common scenario is the multimedia use of a NAS.
My Synology NAS turns on automatically around 6:00 PM, which is shortly before we get home from work. We watch and share multimedia content, have dinner, and then go to rest. When the NAS has no activity for the time period I have configured, which is one hour, it shuts down until the next day, when it will turn on again at 6:00 PM.

Why should I keep a device on for hours and hours without any use?

In the TOS system, you can enable scheduled tasks for startup or shutdown in the Control Panel > Hardware & Power module. Perhaps this feature can meet your needs.

Thank you for the response, and I’m aware of that feature, but it's not the concept we are discussing.

Setting a fixed shutdown time is not the solution, as anyone reading this thread can quickly deduce. Additionally, in certain scenarios, it’s completely counterproductive and even dangerous. When will I finish watching a movie? And worse, when will my data modification work in MariaDB, which could last for days, be completed?

For once I agree with @TM on this one. If you have actions (as one expects on a server) that are indeterminate, why would you even consider hibernating your nas? What about other users who might be needing access when 'You' are not available? If you don't like noise and lights, put it in a closet. Sometimes I despair of the requests people make of TM.
