Our TNAS failed (F4-220) we assume the drives are fine as its just no beeps on the TNAS so we purchased a new F4-423 and have set it up and can see it on TNAS PC for windows without the drives fitted.
If we just put the drives from or old F4-220 into the bays of the new F4-423 will they work?
Is there a risk they will get reformatted?
Is there a workaround to just fit the old drives into the new TNAS without risking them being reformatted?
Hoping someone can help.

As long as your 220 drives are not damaged or dead from the NAS failure, the initboot USB should detect the system partitions from the original 220 setup & it should boot into that; it may need to repair or rebuild the drive setup if it detects any issues to it.
Since the F×-220 & F×-423 are both of the same ×86/×64 architecture, you should be able to seamlessly make this transition.
However, for optimal operation of the 423 series device, it's best to backup all your data that was on the 220 setup & actually setup the 423 on a newer TOS 6 build.
