delete deleted files completely

Post by fmonster1283 »

Hello,
First of all, excuse my English. I speak German and this is a translation.
I really want to delete the deleted files completely.
My hard drive is completely full.
I know that there must be about 500GB of deleted files on it.
But TOS5 won't release the memory.
I couldn't find the recycle bin.
The chat support said I should deactivate the recycle bin.
I then deactivated the recycle bin via shared folders and then activated it again. Didn't help.
I now know where to find the recycle bin. But they are empty and my hard drives are still full.
How can I find the files and delete them completely?
I haven't found anything in the forum that will help me.
The chat support couldn't help me either.
Snapshot is activated.
I have the F2-223 with TOS 5 version 5.1.123.
I hope someone can help me quickly.
Many thanks.

Go into Snapshot. [Both File System Snapshot and Snapshot app if you have them]
IMPORTANT: do not deactivate snapshot yet!

Go to snapshot LISTS and delete snapshots (usually probably best to delete newest first due to the way snapshots work).

This will eventually free up space. [This space is allocated as "Others" if you check Volume > Usage (sub menu from '...') in GUI control panel.]

Never try and delete snapshots directly from the file system (they are protected). If you have changed the snapshot LIST name previously, you will have to recreate those lists before you can delete Snapshots under them. There are posts on the forum explaining how.

Once you have recovered your space set up snapshot system(s) to only retain a "sensible" number. [I only keep 3, with oldest being deleted first. But, I keep other, separate, backups for the stuff I need to protect. :) ]

I deleted all the snapshots and then uninstalled Snapshot.
TOS doesn't want to release the storage. Under Volume and more it shows 900 GB as others.
How can I delete this?

Have you checked the File System Snapshot? Generally, the "Other" category occupying a lot of space is likely due to snapshots

If you have no luck with File System Snapshots, try this thread (there are others, so you could try searching for them)

How do I check the file system snapshot?

The snapshot data must be somewhere that I can't see.

Why doesn't Terramaster know that?

I think @Gremlin already gave you clear tips, you can only delete the snapshots from UI, yes, only from UI, as for security reason, the snapshots are protected. you are not able to delete them even you know where they are.
