Re: Copying files: 25sec transfer 115MB/s - 5 sec. 25MB/s or timeout
Meanwhile the support just did not answer any more.
Too a way to handle it and very disappointing!
I put so much hours of work in it in testing everything possible and impossible.
For example I tested different RAM sizes on the NAS. This is what happens again and again:
NAS 4GB RAM: there are always around 1 sec. breaks (after seamless transfer around 1.1GB) ...
NAS 20GB RAM: there are always around 5 sec. breaks (after seamless transfer around 2.1GB) ...
NAS 32GB RAM: there are around 10 sec. breaks (after seamless transfer around 3.2GB) ...
Another thing was, that for one time I got the pagefile.sys on drive C deleted. Most of the time Windows 11 Pro did not allow this.
And when I could do it, at the next restart of windows it started with an error message, that a pagefile.sys was forced to be created, because windows needs the pagefile.sys.
As for one time I got the pagefile.sys for a short time deleted, the transfer to the NAS was seamless.
I could copy around 30GB to the NAS seamless.

Re: Copying files: 25sec transfer 115MB/s - 5 sec. 25MB/s or timeout
I'm very sorry, but we really can't speculate where the possible issue might be. There have been no similar reports, either in our lab or from other users. Would you mind removing all the existing disks and then installing a new system using just one good hard drive? The purpose of doing this is to rule out any hardware malfunctions in your F4-423.

Re: Copying files: 25sec transfer 115MB/s - 5 sec. 25MB/s or timeout
No, sorry, the support did not answer any more, I did everything I could (several hours of working and testing) and the NAS will be returned to the seller.
I changed and exchanged everything in and around the NAS and it always stays the same, beside changing RAM of the NAS, what changed the amount of transfered Data and the lenght of the breaks. But nobody could imagine what causes those curiosity.
Don't know, perhaps the NAS simply and easy was slightly damaged during the transport to me.
However, my trust in Terramaster died, and I will buy another NAS, now from Synology.
They seem to have the most experience. I hope, that with this NAS everything will work as usual.

Re: Copying files: 25sec transfer 115MB/s - 5 sec. 25MB/s or timeout
I had this "rollercoaster" file transfer speed issue with my F4-423. The solution was to install Unraid. Now all my file transfers are rock-solid.

Actually, it's not as mysterious as you described! When encountering slow speed or interruptions, based on our nearly 10 years of service experience, the reasons can be summarized into the following few categories, and they are basically unrelated to the system.

Re: Copying files: 25sec transfer 115MB/s - 5 sec. 25MB/s or timeout
I tried everything out of this thread (viewtopic.php?p=2165#p2165) during the last 2 weeks. Everything and several times! Back and forth!
And as I wrote, I also tried another computer with Windows 10 Pro on it.
All 4 drives are new. And it is on all drives the same.
And I copied the files also to my old NAS, in the same network with the same cables, with the same computer AND everything was fine.
That means?

It is 100% related to TOS. Switching to Unraid has solved all issues I had with the F4-423.TMroy wrote: ↑13 Jul 2024, 23:53Actually, it's not as mysterious as you described! What does that mean? "Switching to Unraid"
I installed the 4 HDDs as Singles. I do not like RAIDs.

Re: Copying files: 25sec transfer 115MB/s - 5 sec. 25MB/s or timeout
Ah, o.k. Thanx for the info.
However, after for about one week of copying all my movie libraries to the TERRAMASTER and then I wanted to watch them from the TERRAMASTER NAS I noticed many other curious things.
F.e.
Again and again my Apple TV (Software Infusion) couldn't enter the directories on the TERRAMASTER.
Again and again it does not start movies or series episodes. Encoding error or something like this (never in 5 years had those things on my Zyxel NAS).
Starting movies lasts 10 to 60 seconds or as above did NOT start at all. (on Zyxel 1 sec)
Sometimes the TERRAMASTER itself (could be seen on the Software) lost a complete drive. Instead of 4 it shows up 3 drives.
Altough of setting HDD sleep to NEVER, the HDDs fell to sleep and most of the time it took 30 to sometimes over 60 sec to wake it/them up.
Well and after all those things ON TOP (to the problem with the breaks when copying files) I decided to return the TERRAMASTER.
I hope you guys can understand my decission. My experiences with the TERRAMASTER were so annoying and disappointing...
I have very much patience, but that was much too much. I had to quit.
