Is it possible to clone the USB initboot device?

As it says in the subject - can I clone the USB boot drive if I want to store a backup for restoring to a new USB drive?

Not tried but should be. Create one usb boot Linux (plop Linux as example that also have ssh enabled by default).Boot the NAS using this USB and from terminal use dd comand to create an image of the initboot device.

I'm not Linux savvy unfortunately. I imagine this should also be possible with run of the mill cloning apps on Windows or Mac?

There's no need to clone the internal one that's included in a TNAS as it's just a generic script that runs off it, so you can make a new one should you need it in the future.

Like I mentioned I'm not very conversant with Linux, and seeing page upon page upon page upon page of users running into issues with this process (that could so very easily be made simpler), you will understand why I want a little less jank with my interactions with Terramaster devices, even just for once.

For context, last time I tried to expand my 8TBx2,16TBx1 TRAID array with a 16TB drive, the amazing TOS created a 21TB storage pool. Utterly brilliant. I had to delete the storage pool and rebuild the array to finally get 29TB, and then the painstaking restoration of data from backup which as you would know is always a lovely experience and not a waste of time at all.
