TRAID capacity not matching up with actual drives

Post by DigitalAnalog »

Hi, I'm running the latest TOS 5 on an F4-423. I just added a new 16TB to my current 8TBx2, 16TBx1 TRAID configuration with a single parity drive.

I was expecting to see a usable space of around 29TB but TOS is showing the final capacity will only be 21.81TB. What gives?

Generally, the disk you add to TRAID go through more than one step, and the capacity increases in stages. Maybe after waiting for the synchronization to complete, you'll end up with 32TB of capacity.

No, the synchronization finished after 2 days and I was left with 21TB - the same amount you would get if you had 4x8TB disks.

I had to delete the storage pool and re-build to get the correct 29TB of usable space.

Now I have to restore all my data from backups. Oh well.

I'm really not looking forward to when I need to upgrade one of my drives and it's anyone's guess what the final usable space will be. :/

Thanks. I've already rebuilt, but please relay this issue to your engineers if possible.
