Just ordered the F4-212 and I have some questions about expansion

Post by merrick97 »

I just ordered the F4-212 (1GB version) and I will start with two 16GB HDDs in RAID1, while leaving two bays open for future expansion and now here are my questions and these should be pretty easy to answer. I am very computer proficient (I have built many gaming PCs), but have no experience running a NAS. Onto to the actual questions:
1. If I choose to add two additional 16GB drives in the future, would I be able to seamlessly convert to a RAID6 array, giving me 32TB of useable storage and would be seen by Windows as an external drive? Or would I be limited to two separate volumes?

2. Would I be able to plug the F4-212 into a Windows PC using USB and directly copy files that way?

3. I also plan to have this connected directly to my Android TV box via USB will this be read?

TNAS cannot be used like a DAS or a USB storage disk, like your PC/MAC.
