Can it be plugged into any USB port on the 424 series or does it need to be installed to an internal port like the older models?

Plugged it the usb adapter to the TNAS. TNAS.local page just refreshes but doesn’t load up. TNAS PC still doesn’t recognize device.

Sorry, but that doesn't answer the question(s).

1. How to boot 424 series from external USB port? {eg Can the Bios be set to boot from external USB?}

or, if that is not possible

2. How to access internal USB on 424 models?

@TMsupport has sent the OP a new USB initboot apparently without instructions as to how to use it, which seems a little short-sighted to me.

USB Intitboot can be inserted both internally and externally, but it is recommended to insert it internally as it will not occupy the external USB interface.

UPDATE: I got it running guys. What I did was...
- remove all drives (just pull the caddies out)
- Start the NAS wait a few minutes (with USB Adapter plug in)
- Then initialize the NAS like a new product.

Thought this would help anyone that was stuck in the same boat I was.
