TNAS F2-221 downgraded itself

Post by LoremIpsum »

hey,

im using a F2-221 with 3 6TB HDDs. (2 alway online, 1 in disconnected in another building)

yesterday i wanted to create a full backup, for this i removed one of the mirrored disks and replaced it with the disk safely stored in another building.
around 20 hours later i got the following message in mail:
Speicher-Manager

RAID # 1 Synchronisation abgeschlossen!

2024-06-07 02:26:06

------------------------------------------------------------

Device name: TNAS-2CC2B1

Model: F2-221

TOS version: 4.2.40-2012241608
i instantly though something is wrong when i saw the Version, as i already updraded to Tos 5.
No Stored data is lost. But the OS and all installed programms got rolled back to the old disk instead of using the newer disk, including the removal of the new "Super user" and reactivation of the old "Admin"

this is the first time this thing happened, even though i used the same backup method multiple times before.

before im doing something stupid i just wanted to ask how to proceed.
im thinking about taking out both mirrored disks and inserting the third disk with the newest install, then format one of the 2 before adding it back in.

is there any reason not to do this ?

I guess you might have installed different system versions on different disks, which means the system partitions on the two disks are different, one is 4.2 and the other is 5.0. When you restarted the system, there was a conflict between the two system disks, and the boot system automatically started from the 4.2 system disk, so you saw the system before the update.
I do not recommend using this method to back up your data. You can install the disk into a USB enclosure and use USB Copy to back it up.
