New Terramaster and 16TB Drives, Abnormal?

Post by fleanote »

Any help is appreciated. Just purchased, placed 4 (16TB) drives in and went thru initialization. Get an error 'Failed to Format RAID! Your hard drives are abnormal. Please initialize hard drives and try again.' Read online to slave the hard drive in another system and format it first? Is that the best way forward? For reference the drives are DELL/EMC 16TB SATA, Model #MG08ACA16TEY. Possible they are not compatible?

Tried a test using (2) 1TB drives. The Terra sees the 2 drives and initiates the format, but this time it stays at 0% and doesn't move. I should have mentioned this is the F4-210 model.

Regarding your hard drives, they seem to be enterprise level hard drives and are generally usable
You can try connecting them to a PC, formatting them in GPT format (if not GPT), and deleting any partitions that may be included on them

"0%" indicates that the installation package was not successfully downloaded from the server. This may be a network connection issue
You can try downloading the installation package in advance and selecting "Manual to complete initialization:

For whatever reason, the TNAS utility is finding the F4, but will not respond when clicking 'login.' When I access it via the IP I see, It goes directly (no prompt for login) to a screen where I get to name the unit, admin/password etc. I can see the HD's and I can click to initialize the RAID, but it dies at 0%. I am controlling it via my network, so I'm pretty sure its 'connected to the internet.'

You mentioned manually doing it ,manually - where is that command or instruction? I have downloaded the INS file - just not sure how to use/apply it.

Sorry, please disregard the advice given above as it does not fit your situation. If you can provide pictures at the beginning, it can reduce a lot of misunderstandings and trouble.
According to your latest description, after the administrator initializes the settings, you encountered a problem during the storage formatting initialization process.
Guess your disks may contain storage configurations from other devices or systems.
You can consider using only one disk to reinitialize the installation. You can also refer to this operation guide to manually format your disks:
