Any way to move existing MDADM RAID6 array to TOS?

Post by cededd »

Hi -

I am trying to commission a Linux server with 8 HDD and move to a U8-450.

I'm booting from an NVME successfully and have my primary storage pool (Volume1) on that.

I've installed the existing drives and if I add the mdadm.conf entry for the array, I can discover the RAID6 array and mount the ext4 FS on it manually. However, there is no way to share content from the drive (or see it in the UI) and a reboot regenerates mdadm.conf and removes the entry, so even manually editing the OS files (e.g. exports for NFS, etc...) seems to be a bad option as my edits would be manually overwritten.

Is there any way to do this without buying a separate set of drives?

Thanks!

TOS is not yet able to directly recognize storage from Linux computers or any other system, nor can it be directly applied to TOS and File Services. Using storage in TNAS requires dedicated storage partitions and structures, but it seems difficult for you to buy new disks.

Regarding the mdadm.conf reset, perhaps you could go to TOS > Control Panel > Scheduled Tasks and set up a boot task to automatically set up your storage. But in this case you will only be able to access the files through limited means such as SSH/SCP/SFTP.

You can try to mount the storage to the visible directory of Volume1 to access it via TOS and file services, but there may be permission issues. If you are going to take this approach, do not use snapshots on Volume1.

I think this should be posted in big bold type on every piece of info for the Terramaster/TOS devices and at the top of every support and forum pager page.

It would save a lot of aggravation later.
