Trying to remote mount SMB folder

Post by DigitalAnalog »

Hi - I'm using an F4-423 with TOS 5.1 and I'm trying to remote mount an SMB folder attached to an ASUS router, but I'm getting a remote source path unavailable error. I'm typing in the correct SMB address and folder - what could be causing this issue?

There may be security issues with SMB remote mounting. Firewalls or network operators may impose restrictions on SMB. It is recommended to connect through a VPN before using SMB.

iirc my Netgear router with (smb) mounted usb drive requires router name/password authentication for access.

But I am on the same LAN and I can mount those same shared folders on other devices including laptops, and even through Plex on other devices, e.g. NVIDIA Shield. I'm not sure why it's only the NAS that can't mount other shared folders on my local network.

Thanks, will try this. But can I ask why this lengthy workaround is necessary? I thought that mounting an SMB folder from the same network is a standard function for any NAS. Also - will this workaround be built into TOS 6?
