Does SSH make it easy to remove the Media Index Log?

The media index (v5.1.33) has been giving me trouble; it stops claiming indexing is complete when in fact it isn't and fails with problems approximately one third of the way through.

I have successfully obtained the mediadb.log and media.log files using the instructions provided below, however I am facing difficulties in navigating the size of the media.log file. Would it be possible to just remove the two media log files from the /var/log directory and then use the GUI to perform a rebuild? So that I can more easily debug the issue, I only want to delete off the logs.
